ÓBIDOS - LIVING MIDDLE AGES!

This medieval town is one of the most picturesque and best preserved in Portugal. The town, which was inhabited before the arrival of the Romans, became prosperous from the moment it was chosen by the royal family and since then it has been given by the regents of the different dynasties to their respective queens. This is one of the main reasons why there are so many churches in this small town.

CALDAS DA RAINHA - SPA OF THE QUEENS

Caldas da Rainha has a city center with a beautiful pedestrian zone that invites you to stroll, and many restaurants and cafes. The Praça da Fruta, the large market that offers every day fresh fruit and vegetables and other regional foods, is worth a visit, as is the fish market.

Caldas da Rainha is also home to the Ceramic Museum. One focus of this collection are the works of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, which present a representative cross-section of the work of this great son of the city and show the lavish splendor of the pieces made in the faience factory. Do not miss a visit to the Bordalo Pinheiro ceramics factory and the attached factory outlet.

COASTAL HIKING

There are numerous opportunities for long walks and hikes around Foz do Arelho and the Óbidos lagoon. Easily manageable routes as well as demanding ones that require good physical condition and step resistance.

Many of the routes go along the cliffs and a particularly beautiful tour leads over 22km to the next coastal town of São Martinho.

THE ÓBIDOS LAGOON - SAILING, SURFING AND MORE

The Óbidos lagoon is a popular spot in the kite scene and has a sailing school that also offers catamaran sailing and windsurfing.

However, the lagoon also has a quiet and contemplative side that invites exploration. Especially the south-eastern part offers a very pristine nature, and on some days it is possible to observe flamingos.
